How to set up NeoForge 26.1 Snapshot 10

Install Java 25 or newer (e.g. Eclipse Temurin) and check it with java -version.
Download the official installer neoforge-26.1.0.0-alpha.13+snapshot-10-installer.jar into an empty folder.
Run java -jar neoforge-26.1.0.0-alpha.13+snapshot-10-installer.jar --installServer. It downloads the Minecraft server and libraries into the folder.
Start the server with the generated run.sh (Linux/macOS) or run.bat (Windows). Set memory in user_jvm_args.txt, e.g. -Xmx6G.
Accept Mojang's EULA in eula.txt (eula=true), start again, and put mods into mods/.
You can delete the installer and installer.log afterwards.

Modded servers need more memory: 6–8 GB for a light modpack, 8–12 GB or more for large packs. Leave 1–1.5 GB for the operating system. How much RAM?

What Java version does NeoForge 26.1 Snapshot 10 need?

NeoForge 26.1 Snapshot 10 needs Java 25 or newer. Running it on an older Java fails with an UnsupportedClassVersionError mentioning class file version 69.0.

Is NeoForge 26.1 Snapshot 10 safe for my survival world?

Only on a copy. Preview versions are experimental and upgrade worlds irreversibly; keep a backup and don't switch a live world to a snapshot, pre-release or release candidate.
