What Magma is and who it's for

Magma is a hybrid server that combines Forge (and, for newer versions, NeoForge) mods with Bukkit/Spigot plugins. It is mainly used with older modpacks such as 1.12.2.

Magma files here come from the mcjars.app community mirror and are labelled. For newer Minecraft versions, also compare Arclight and Mohist.

How to set up a Magma server

Steps for the latest version (1.21.1); every version page has its own exact commands.

  1. Install Java 21 or newer (e.g. Eclipse Temurin) and check it with java -version.
  2. Download the Magma jar into an empty folder.
  3. Start it once with the script below; it creates eula.txt and stops.
  4. Set eula=true in eula.txt to accept the Minecraft EULA, then start again. Players join on port 25565.
  5. Put plugins (.jar) into plugins/ and restart.
